'Low light on the Twr Bach Lighthouse', Ynys Landdwyn, Anglesey, 40x40cm oil on board (framed)

£2,000.00

This painting is of a scene I captured in a photograph of the lighthouse on Ynys Landdwyn. It was captured around mid morning in winter, with low light off to the south east (left). This scene is very famous and there are lots of photographs taken from similar locations. This was the first time I had visited it and as luck has it, we got a spectacular day (and low tide). The light was perfect, skipping over the headland and hitting the side of the lighthouse.

This is the second painting I have done of this scene. Earlier in the year, I did a smaller study in acrylic paint (20x20cm). Since completing that one, I wanted to come back to this, painting it in a larger format and in oil paints.

As a side note, Ynys Landdwyn is a tidal island. At low tide it is a peninsula connected to Anglesey, but at high tide it is fully cut off. Jo (my ex wife) and I strolled over to it completely unaware. Fortunately we were back over before being cut off. A lucky escape this time!
