'A dip in the Menai Strait', Menai Bridge, Anglesey, 40x40cm oil on board (framed)

£2,850.00

Ever since I arrived in Menai Bridge, I had planned to paint something like this. Granted it is not your standard view of the iconic Menai Suspension bridge, but it is a spot that I visit almost every morning and for me I wanted to paint something different while still something uniquely familiar to me and those who know the area well. Particularly special is that I painted Jo (my ex wife) in the water. This too is almost a daily event in the warmer months. Jo is a strong and experienced open water swimmer and loves the sea. For her morning dips, she gets in at a sheltered point away from the currents and swims around for a few short minutes as I watch with a warm cup of coffee.

For this painting, I once again went for a square canvas with dynamic diagonal features to draw the viewer in. The focal areas are kept in more detail with the other features blended out somewhat. I chose to paint in strong vibrant colours for the near water and outcrop.
