'Tryfan', Ogwen Valley, Snowdonia National Park, 30x24cm oil on board (framed)

£850.00

Shortly after regional COVID travel restrictions were relaxed, I took the opportunity and a break in the weather to get over the bridge from Anglesey to the mainland. I had seen lots of photographs of Tryfan, but never visited it myself. So with the sun high in the sky on a perfect spring day, I went to check out the beautiful mountain. It did not disappoint. I parked the van at the Gwern Gof Isaf campsite, found a nice elevated spot and set up the easel. I was able to block in the full painting on location and finish it off in the studio later on.

Sitting outside and painting for me is a fantastic experience. I am still very new to it. There is a peacefulness behind it. Perhaps the combination of the lack of distraction, being in nature and concentrating on observation, painting what is in front of me. I don’t really know exactly what made it so special, but it was.

Fun wiki fact/info - Tryfan was voted Britain's favourite mountain by Trail magazine. Tryfan is said to be the final resting-place of Sir Bedivere (Bedwyr) of Arthurian Legend.
