'A view from the Top', Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) summit, 40x40cm oil on board (framed)

This painting is of a view from the top of Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) , Snowdonia National Park. The reference photo that I based this on was kindly provided by Zoe (@mymagicmomentos) and depicts a stunning view looking down into the valley.

Typically, I paint mountain scenes from a lower elevation, looking up to the subject, so this one was a bit different and presented a different technical challenge. Additionally a lot of the scene is in darkness due to the low light. Overall I am very happy with how it came together, particularly the small details which brought the painting to life. The light touching the side of the isolated cloud was a fun addition right at the end. I hope you like it.

Fun Wiki Fact/note – Yr Wyddfa (Snowdon) is the busiest mountain in the United Kingdom and the third most visited attraction in Wales; in 2019 it was visited by 590,984 walkers. I plan to go up this as soon as COVID lockdown is over and the weather looks good.
